TAP Volunteers Needed for 18th Annual CHOC Walk TAP is very excited to announce that we are supporting the 18th Annual CHOC/Disneyland Resort "Walk in the Park." This year's Walk is expected to break numbers once again, with an anticipated turnout of 13,000-15,000 walkers and volunteers. The Walk provides funding to enhance hospital programs, services, research and outreach efforts. The Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) relies heavily, each year, on the time and efforts of volunteers to make the Walk a successful event. TAP will be participating on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 11am - 4pm to assist with Walk registration. Volunteers will be registering Walk participants and collecting donations. This is a great opportunity to meet the people who's lives have been deeply impacted by the work done at CHOC. To read more about CHOC Walk, visit the website www.chocwalk.org. We only have 10 volunteer positions available. Please sign-up by October 6 to secure your spot. All volunteers must also fill-out a volunteer registration/waiver form. Please email Joy Cheng for required forms. *NOTE* Volunteer Day is different from the actual walk day. Questions? TALA 14th Annual Installation Dinner The Taiwanese American Lawyers Association Cordially invites you to its Fourteenth Annual Installation Dinner With Keynote Speaker: Friday, October 17, 2008 Registration @ 6PM TALA Members and their guests: $60 per person View event flyer for details/tickets YGAP and LAFun Annual Halloween Party This year, dress up in your Halloween best to fronteras on Main Street in Alhambra. PRICE: 8th Annual Human Rights Film Festival featuring Joyful Life Come support Taiwanese American Anita Chang's documentary Joyful Life, showing at the Human Rights Festival. The Festival takes place from 10/24 to 10/26. Joyful Life will be showing on Sunday, October 26th from 2-3PM with a discussion to follow. The goal of the screening and the symposium is to create a space in which the general public, scholars, and community leaders can discuss labor markets comprehensively by exploring its history, impact, and various efforts made within LA and abroad. Joyful Life is a feature documentary in collaboration with Hansen's disease (Leprosy) patients residing at Taiwan's Lo-Sheng ("Joyful Life"), one of the few remaining sanatoriums in the world, on the verge of disappearing. Conceived as a collaboration among the residents of Lo-Sheng, a Taiwanese-American filmmaker, documentary students, and cultural workers, Joyful Life presents diverse perspectives of Lo-Sheng residents in the midst of their activism to preserve Lo-Sheng and not be moved to a nearby hospital. Filmmaker-lead workshops prepare residents for their own storytelling and filming - creating an intimate portrait of a historically marginalized community and their inspiring determination to protect what they call their home.
