SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: November 7, 2006 – Please vote in the General Elections As part of TAP’s campaign to help “get out the vote”, TAP would like to remind members to vote in the November 7, 2006 upcoming elections. These elections will be instrumental in not only determining the future of California, but the future state of the USA and world. Up for elections are all coveted and high-ranking positions in California, including Governor, Lt. Governor, Judge seats, and numerous state initiatives. While TAP is non-partisan, we support all APIA's in their quests to run for political offices. **TAP is a non-partisan nonprofit and does not endorse any party, candidate, or measure. However, TAP is proud that key members of the TAP/TACL Family, and API community are running for elections.** John Chiang (Candidate for State Controller) – Mr. Chiang was the 2006 recipient of the annual “TAP Pioneers in Public Service” award, and attended the TAP Summer Banquet. He is Chairman of the Board of Equalization, and the highest ranking Asian American elected official in California. His parents were immigrants of Taiwan. John has personalized the BOE office by spearheading free tax and finance seminars to Californians, along with providing free income tax assistance to low income residents, seniors, and veterans as well as non-profit agencies. John has also consistently supported fair property tax reassessment for domestic partners. Judy Chu (Candidate for Member of State Board of Equalization) – Ms. Chu is currently a California State Assembly member. Prior to her term in the Assembly, Judy served on the Monterey Park City Council for 13 years, where she was pivotal in passing legislation to protect the rights of many Taiwanese American citizens, businesses, and community groups. She also authored Kenny’s Law (AB 2428: Protecting Hate Crime Victims), which resulted from tragic events where a Taiwanese American teenager was brutally murdered by his racist neighbor. PLEASE PARTICPATE IN OUR DEMOCRATIC PROCESS AND VOTE! Next Events: Dim Sum Lunch Come meet new friends, hang out with other TAP members, and find out more about TAP in an intimate group setting.
