From the President:

Hi friends:

February was an extremely busy month with many varying events and opportunities, ranging from a Big Bear ski trip, a Tax Seminar, providing volunteers for a Lunar New Year festival, to getting together with various community organization leaders and members at a Clippers game.  The month ended with community concerts to remember the 228 Incident that occurred in Taiwan 60 years ago.  As a second generation Taiwanese American, this historical event in Taiwan's history has helped to shape my identity today.  It can remind us to value the life, freedoms, and Democracy we have now.  It reminds me to continue to strive to improve upon our quality of life here in the US, and be thankful that people can currently enjoy similar freedoms now in Taiwan.  To read more about this incident see this site: http://www.taiwandc.org/228-60.htm

Take action to Support AB295! Bill that would enhance Taiwanese Identity! This bill would improve data collection in California to represent the fuller diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander American ethnic groups, and breaks down census data into categories that includes Taiwanese among others. Letters of support are needed by Wednesday, March 21!

To learn more about Taiwan's current status from a non-Taiwanese American, we encourage our members to attend a talk by Bruce Herschensohn, author of the book "Taiwan: The Threatened Democracy," on March 15th.

Look forward to more events to network young professionals, develop professionally, help the community, and in turn gain a greater voice for Taiwanese Americans and Asian Americans alike.

Please e-mail me if you are interested in getting more involved and helping with our upcoming events, specifically for a big Community event in May, or our Casino Night/Annual Banquet later in the summer.

TAP Dialogue Series:
Meet Bruce Herschensohn, Author of "Taiwan: The Threatened Democracy"

Date: Thursday, March 15, 2007, 7:00PM
Location: Nixon Library
18001 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda, CA

Having served both Presidents Nixon and Reagan, Herschensohn writes a timely and sober examination of the forgotten conflict that may yet embroil the world in war. He's an expert on relations between China, Taiwan and the United States, and must be heard as he shows why Taiwan will be a critical theater for American foreign policy in the twenty-first century as it struggles to remain a free and vibrant democracy.

Prof. Herschensohn has just published a new book, titled " Taiwan- a Threatened Democracy", a 200-page book that will help Americans understand Taiwan's dangerous situation. He has already done a book-publicity & signing event on Feb. 10 at Pepperdine Univ. in Malibu in which 15 Taiwanese-Americans drove long distance to attend. Now, he has scheduled another event for Orange County, at 7 PM, March 15 (Thursday) at Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. He will give a speech about Taiwan and hold a Q & A session.

He is a respectable scholar, political commentator, and one-time US Senate Candidate. Since he has also been a strong supporter of Taiwan, TAP encourages its membership to attend this signing to meet and learn from him.

JOIN US FOR DINNER after the event next door to the Nixon Library. Indicate in your RSVP if you will be attending dinner.
